Enjoy three days full of longboarding and yoga with Esther Fernandez and I in the beautiful Basque country - a perfect mix of our two big passions. Esther and I know each other through our teacher Simon Park and connected instantly over our shared love for yoga, the ocean and the Basque country. We believe surfing and yoga are the perfect combination – both are always taking us back into the present moment and give us a sense of calm and connectedness. We are looking forward to taking you along for both!
Playa de Zarautz is a standout attraction in the Basque Country. Stretching over 2.5km, it is one of the longest beaches in the region and known for its good sand bars. It's reliable waves make it a paradise for surfers, with conditions suitable for both beginners and seasoned professionals.
We will have one longboard session together each day, where we will be in the water with you to support you in finding the best waves and give you feedback on your surfing. Local shaper and Spanish longboard champion Jon Garmendia will be supporting us in the water one day and will give you valuable tips about his home spot. We will have one video analysis in order to give you the chance to see your own surfing and learn where and how you can improve and you will get a little photo package to take home with you. In addition to that we will have talks about technique and an introduction on different board shapes and fins by Jon Garmendia as well as a visit of his shaping room.
In the yoga classes, we will have both powerful and dynamic sequences as well as calming and relaxing ones to complement our surf sessions. Esther and I love to teach creative vinyasa classes and will guide you through a combination of advanced asana, restorative poses, as well as pranayama and meditation. The structure of our days will depend on the surfing conditions, so we will either start the day with a yoga class, or meet on the mat later on in the afternoon.
During our Longboard & Yoga days we will be enjoying delicious brunch and dinner together by Tidore Food. For us, the topic of food is an important part of our life and our retreats. Tidore Food is a project with soul that makes food good for you, good for the planet and beautiful to look at. Their menus are inclusive, making sure that people with different diets can enjoy a delicious meal together. For Basques, food is an important role in culture, for us too. Let us know your diet and intolerances and we will ensure that you can enjoy this experience to the fullest.

ESTHER: With over 20 years of practice of yoga, my goal is to help others cultivate a strong connection between body, mind, and spirit, while rediscovering their inner freedom and inherent power.
I feel very aligned when I'm in the water or on the mat, and I love taking this feeling with me everywhere I go and spreading it to the world.
Ten years ago I decided to move to Zarautz, to be able to appreciate the benefits of the sea every day. If I'm not at the yoga studio, or in the water, you can find me preparing delicious recipes and dishes, since I love researching food and share it with friends and family.
MASCHA: Both yoga and surfing take me right into the present moment and center me whilst giving me a sense of calm and connectedness. I started surfing on vacation with my family when I was twelve years old and it quickly became something I arranged my life around. My love for yoga grew a little more slowly, but steadily, starting with my first encounters in teenage years, followed by a more and more dedicated practice and my first teacher training in 2016. Since then, yoga has been a constant in my life, influencing everything from my relationships to my career choices. And of course, my surfing too, where it helps me calm my breath when the waves are challenging and prepares me physically and mentally to be able to catch and ride waves with passion and ease.
